Christopher D. Fay

As a Principal with Smith, Frank & Partners, Chris works with business owners to promote, protect and preserve what is sometimes their single largest asset  their business.

Who are our typical clients?

Our practice is focused on assisting key executives, professionals and business owners. Accumulating wealth for future needs has increasingly become an individual responsibility and less of a corporate benefit for the highly compensated.  In addition, restrictions on qualified savings plans and the potential taxation of Social Security benefits limit the amount of retirement assets that will be available.  Our experience allows us to provide innovative solutions for these and many other critical issues facing our clients today.

What makes me uniquely qualified?

We have strategically built our practice over the last 20 years to meet the needs of business owners, professionals and C-Level executives for public and private companies. My speciality is designing and orchestrating the implementation of executive benefit strategies to corporations and closely held businesses, and developing appropriate financing solutions for these programs. My role is to guide the business owner through exit strategies designed to help meet their desired outcome for establishing financial independence, transferring control and preserving the financial stability of the organization through the transition process. Since the mid-1980s, I have developed many strategic relationships. These key relationships allow our clients to benefit from the cumulative knowledge and synergy that a dedicated team provides.

What challenges do our clients face?

I find that the reasons people fail to prepare for the future range from the practical to the emotional. Issues include a significant investment of time, mental energy and money, as well as uncertainty about the future and the fear that any long-term decisions will be permanent. There is a reluctance to discuss sensitive issues such as ownership, family and the future. However, without planning, crucial decisions relevant to the future of the business could fall into the hands of inexperienced relatives, creditors or the court system. In addition, the IRS could become a devastating creditor.  We coach and provide guidance to our clients to ensure that they have plans in place designed to protect and preserve their assets.

Something you may not know about me...

I attended the University of New Mexico on an NROTC scholarship and served in the United States Navy. My wife Becky and I have two children. I love spending time with my family and volunteering my time as a coach for my children’s sports teams.
